Ode To My Mother

Hasmita Shah, 1998

Now that I have become one

Thank you for what you have done

I appreciate the burden you had to bear

The amount of tender loving care

That you to me have shown

I have not always known

When I was a baby and cried

You rocked me from side to side

When I was a little girl and told you my fears

You hugged me close and wiped away my tears

When I was a teenager and often in a rage

You showed vision, hope and courage

How you must have silently suffered

And I’m truly sorry for the hurt I caused

Now that I have become one

I appreciate more what you have done

And I want to say thank you

For all your love and care and I love you too.
